Positive Mental Health

" Even the moon phases through the phases to return to full- heling takes time"

Positive Mental Health’ is the cultivation of a person’s ability to develop mental strength, resilience, confidence, self-belief, emotional control and a positive life outlook, enabling them to focus on what is in their control and make good decisions to enjoy a healthy sense of well-being, effectively manage life’s challenges and achieve goals. Cultivating 'Positive Mental Health' and mental strength is needed to prevent 'adverse mental health' symptoms and illnesses. Here are some practical tools:

  1. Gratitude: Practice gratitude by acknowledging and appreciating the small things in life. Keep a gratitude journal, write down three things you’re thankful for each day, or share your gratitude with others.

  2. Mindfulness: Focus on the present moment and let go of worries about the past or future. Practice mindfulness through meditation, deep breathing, or engaging in activities that bring you joy.

  3. Positive Self-Talk: Challenge negative self-talk and replace it with positive affirmations. Speak kindly to yourself, and focus on your strengths and accomplishments.

  4. Sleep and Nutrition: Prioritize sleep (7-9 hours) and maintain a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Avoid sugary and processed foods, and stay hydrated.

  5. Breathing Exercises: Practice deep, diaphragmatic breathing to reduce stress and anxiety. Take slow, deliberate breaths, focusing on the sensation of the breath moving in and out of your body.

  6. Limit Screen Time: Set boundaries around screen time, especially before bed, and engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation.

  7. Playfulness: Make time for play and humor, whether it’s watching a funny video, reading a humorous book, or spending time with people who make you laugh.

  8. Comparison: Practice self-compassion and recognize that everyone has their own struggles and successes. Focus on your own journey and avoid comparing yourself to others.

  9. Positive Focus: Set exciting, meaningful, and motivating goals, and focus on what you can control. Practice positive thinking by reframing negative thoughts and focusing on the good.

  10. Emotional Wellness: Develop emotional resilience by acknowledging and accepting your emotions, rather than suppressing or denying them. Practice emotional regulation techniques, such as deep breathing or mindfulness, to manage stress and anxiety.
